Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein and the Hilti Art Foundation
Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein is the state museum of modern and contemporary art, at Städtle 32 in Vaduz. Its entrance is from the pedestrian zone, and the admission ticket includes the Hilti Art Foundation. Make it the focus of an art-led visit rather than treating it as an interchangeable stop with the national museum: the subjects and exhibition experiences differ.
Regular admission is CHF 15. The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00, extending to 20:00 on Thursday. It is closed on Monday. Wednesday admission is free during the regular 10:00 to 17:00 hours, including public events and educational activities. Last admission is 15 minutes before closing, so an exhibition visit needs more planning than simply reaching the entrance before the doors shut.

Liechtenstein national museum
The national museum at Städtle 43 explores the country’s history and culture through its permanent exhibition. Choose it when you want context for the places you have seen in Vaduz or for the historical timeline in our history guide. A free audio guide is available in English, German, French, Italian and Chinese. The museum is fully accessible.
Regular admission is CHF 10, with a CHF 13 combination ticket for the national museum and the SchatzKammer. Hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00, extending to 20:00 on Wednesday; Monday is closed. This late opening is on a different day from the art museum. A Wednesday plan can therefore put the free art museum visit before an evening at the national museum, allowing each its own time.
Other ways to explore Liechtenstein
Keep museum admission separate from wider excursions. Use the museum details here to plan exhibitions and opening days, then explore the country’s other activities.
The postal museum
The postal museum at Städtle 37 covers Liechtenstein’s stamps and postal history. Admission is free, and regular hours are daily from 10:00 to 17:00. Its Monday opening makes it a useful choice when the art and national museums have their normal closing day. Give the stamp collection its own attention instead of assuming it offers the same national-history visit as the larger museum.
A stairlift is available at the postal museum; contact the museum about assistance if you need it. That is a different access description from the fully accessible national museum. For the art museum, discuss any specific access needs with the house before your visit. Select the museum according to both your interests and the arrangements that work for you.
Exhibitions across the 2026 and 2027 season
At the Kunstmuseum, Anna Jermolaewa’s “Radical Hope” runs from 30 October 2026 to 29 March 2027. The national museum’s “ECHO” project, featuring artistic work alongside objects from the permanent exhibition, runs from 1 October 2026 to 14 February 2027. These dates help choose a visit with a particular exhibition in mind, while the regular opening days still apply.
“Typisch Weihnachten!” at the national museum starts on 22 November 2026 and runs to 17 January 2027. It is a later-season option, rather than an exhibition already open at the beginning of November. If that is the reason for your visit, match both the exhibition dates and the museum’s festive-period closures to your intended day.
Prices, passes and special opening dates
The Kunstmuseum’s reduced admission is CHF 10 for the listed eligible groups, including students, apprentices and groups of at least 10 people per person. At the national museum, reduced admission is CHF 7, with CHF 10 for its reduced combination ticket. The national museum lists Swiss Travel Pass and Swiss Museum Pass for free admission; use the conditions for the specific house rather than extending that benefit to every museum.
Both the art and national museums open on Easter Monday and Whit Monday from 10:00 to 17:00. On 15 August they open from 10:00 to 20:00 with free admission. The art, national and postal museums close on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January. Regular weekly hours therefore need those exceptions added, particularly for a visit over the festive period.
Build a museum day in the Städtle
Choose the house you most want to see, then add a walk through the pedestrian centre. If you want an outdoor contrast, the castle exterior walk includes an uphill approach. For connections from neighbouring railway stations, see getting there. Museums provide an indoor focus, while access to the castle residence remains exterior-only.
